Accelerating Dense LLMs via L0-regularized Mixture-of-Experts

Zhenyu Zhang, Jiudong Yang, Zhaowen Tao, Meng Chen

his paper introduces L0-MoE, a method to accelerate dense LLMs by using L0-regularization to create a lightweight Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) architecture. The core contribution is achieving significant speedups (up to 2.5x) with minimal performance degradation, outperforming existing acceleration techniques. This is enabled by domain-aware dataset curation and dynamic batching for efficient training.

Overview of the L0-MoE Architecture, which includes three main stages: (1) cluster confusion matrix based sampling, (2) expert formation using L0 regularization, and (3) dynamic batching for MoE training. The figure above illustrates the process of building an L0-MoE with four experts over n n iterations of dataset sampling.

Do Personality-Tuned LLMs Make Better Social Agents?

Tim Krabbe, Xiaodan Shi

This paper investigates if fine-tuning LLMs with personality data improves their social agent capabilities. By training on personality-labeled social media and dialogues, they created personality-based dialogue engines and evaluated their consistency and contr…

Figure 3: Exact finite- n n convergence of ExpBoN vs. SBoN on real LLM candidate pools (medians with 10–90% bands). Columns: the reward score r / λ r/\( \lambda \) of Section 2 at the deployed temperature λ = 1 / 20 \( \lambda \)=1/20 and at λ = 1 / 2 \( \lambda \)=1/2 , the temperature of the synthetic example in Figure 1; the GSI score of Section 4 without clipping ( β r + d \( \beta \) r+d ) and with clipping ( s C = β r + min ⁡ ( d , C ) s_{C}=\( \beta \) r+\( \min \)(d,C) ; β = 20 \( \beta \)=20 , C = 0.45 C=0.45 ). Rows: KL divergence to the tilted target and relative centered-reward gap. Output laws are computed exactly by numerical integration; the dotted line marks numerical precision ( 10 − 13 10^{-13} ). ExpBoN converges geometrically in every configuration while SBoN decays polynomially; comparing the last two columns, clipping speeds up convergence by capping the right tail of the scores.
